The College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia is taking action against two sisters for their alleged involvement in a cosmetic-filler operation that reportedly caused physical harm to a client. Jeeti Virk, a former Miss Universe Canada contestant, and her sister Rajan Virk are accused of promoting body-contouring services, including lip and buttock enhancements through dermal fillers, on Instagram without proper licensing. The sisters have not responded to the allegations made in court.
A lawsuit filed by a former client states that she suffered deformities and required medical attention following services provided by the Virk sisters. The lawsuit accuses the sisters of negligence and misleading practices. The court issued a default judgment ordering the sisters to pay damages to the client.
The client, as per the college’s petition, engaged with the Virk sisters via Instagram for body-contouring services, agreeing to a procedure involving 2,000 milliliters of dermal filler injected into her buttocks. The petition details instances where the client was urged to obtain antibiotics under false pretenses and was charged extra during the procedure. The product used, Avanescence, was not approved by Health Canada.
Following the procedure, the client experienced complications, including leaking fluid and physical discomfort, leading to multiple hospital visits. Medical examinations revealed fat necrosis and filler leakage from the buttocks. The client eventually received treatment to dissolve the filler.
The Virk sisters offered a partial refund, which the client declined, and eventually cut off contact with them. The client continued to face bodily deformities for over a month after the injections.
The B.C. Ministry of Health emphasizes that only licensed professionals should administer botox and dermal fillers due to associated risks. Improper injection can lead to severe consequences such as tissue damage and blindness. The importance of qualified providers and proper consultation is highlighted to avoid complications.
The court documents mention that the Virk sisters utilized various Instagram accounts to advertise their services, including offering training in cosmetic injection techniques. Licensed providers stress the significance of thorough consultations and informed consent to mitigate risks associated with cosmetic procedures.
