Prime Minister Mark Carney is set to embark on a nine-day trip to Malaysia, Singapore, and South Korea later this month to participate in two international summits. Carney’s itinerary includes attending the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Summit in Kuala Lumpur, where discussions on trade with Malaysia’s prime minister are on the agenda. Following this summit, the Prime Minister will meet with Singapore’s prime minister and regional business leaders to explore ways to eliminate trade barriers and attract global investments. The trip will conclude in South Korea, where Carney will participate in a gathering of Asia-Pacific economic leaders in Gyeongju. Notably, Carney plans to visit the shipyard run by Hanwha Ocean in South Korea, one of the two companies vying for a contract to construct new Canadian submarines. The Prime Minister’s visit to Asia is scheduled from October 24 to November 1.
