Canadian player Leylah Fernandez secured a spot in the semifinals of the Japan Open tennis tournament.
In the quarterfinals, Fernandez triumphed over Slovakia’s Rebecca Sramkova with a score of 7-6 (2), 6-3 on Thursday.
Hailing from Laval, Quebec, Fernandez served one ace and committed three double faults, managing to break her opponent’s serve four times out of nine opportunities.
Sramkova, on the other hand, delivered one ace but struggled with seven double faults. She capitalized on two out of three break-point opportunities.
Next, Fernandez is set to compete against the victor of the match between Switzerland’s Viktorija Golubic and Romania’s Sorana Cirstea.
