“Netflix Adapts Carley Fortune’s Novel into TV Series”

Date:

Netflix Canada has recently confirmed the development of a new TV series based on one of Carley Fortune’s popular romance novels. The streaming service has greenlit a 10-episode adaptation of Fortune’s third book, titled “This Summer Will Be Different.” The story follows Lucy during a summer trip to Prince Edward Island, where she encounters Felix, sparking a passionate connection. However, complications arise as Felix happens to be her best friend Bridget’s younger brother. Despite vowing to keep her distance from Felix during her annual visits to P.E.I., Lucy finds it challenging to resist his charm. When Bridget faces a crisis just before her wedding, Lucy decides to accompany her, leading to emotional dilemmas and questioning her own feelings.

The upcoming TV series will be filmed in Toronto and on Prince Edward Island to stay true to the novel’s settings. Carley Fortune, a Toronto-based writer and journalist, expressed her excitement about bringing the love story to life on screen. She shared that her inspiration for the book stemmed from her personal experiences on the island, emphasizing the beauty, warmth of the locals, and the enduring bonds of friendship that influenced the narrative. Fortune’s previous novels include “One Golden Summer,” “Every Summer After,” and “Meet Me at the Lake,” with her latest book, “Our Perfect Storm,” scheduled for release on May 5.

Additionally, “Every Summer After” is currently being adapted into a TV series called “Every Year After” on Amazon Prime Video. Furthermore, “Meet Me At the Lake” was optioned for a film in 2023 by Netflix and Archewell Productions, co-owned by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Notably, the book was a finalist in Canada Reads, championed by Mirian Njoh in 2024. This recognition marked the first time a romance title made it to the Canada Reads competition.
