Date:

Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime has secured a spot in the final of the European Open after defeating Belgium’s Raphael Collignon 7-6 (2), 6-4 in the semifinals of the tennis tournament. Auger-Aliassime showcased his prowess by delivering eight aces and only committing one double fault, achieving a 78% first-serve point win rate. He capitalized on one of his three break-point opportunities during the one hour and 45-minute match. On the other hand, Collignon, despite hitting five aces, struggled with four double faults and failed to create any break-point chances.

Auger-Aliassime, seeded second, will now face off against third-seeded Jiri Lehecka of Czechia in the final showdown on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Canada’s Denis Shapovalov faced a setback as he narrowly missed the opportunity to compete for an ATP title. The Richmond Hill, Ont., native succumbed to a 6-3, 6-4 defeat against Norway’s Casper Ruud in the semi-finals of the Stockholm Open tennis tournament. Shapovalov, seeded third in the competition, managed six aces and four double faults, converting one out of five break-point opportunities.

Ruud, the tournament’s second seed, recorded two aces and an equal number of double faults, successfully converting three out of six break-point chances. He is set to clash with France’s Ugo Humbert in the final on Sunday, after Humbert advanced due to a walkover following top-seeded Holger Rune of Denmark’s injury during the second set.
