Montreal native Felix Auger-Aliassime clinched another championship by emerging victorious at the European Open held in Belgium over the weekend. The 25-year-old Canadian defeated Jiri Lehecka from the Czech Republic with a scoreline of 7-6(2), 6-6(7), 6-2 in the hard-court ATP 250 event in Brussels. Auger-Aliassime, seeded as the No. 2 player in the tournament, showcased an impressive performance, serving 17 aces during the intense two-hour and 34-minute match while securing 79% of his first-serve points.

Despite losing the second set, Auger-Aliassime maintained control throughout the match by converting two out of six break-point opportunities and denying Lehecka any break-point chances. Reflecting on his win, Auger-Aliassime expressed satisfaction with the outcome, emphasizing the high level of competition displayed by both players during the final.

This victory adds to Auger-Aliassime’s growing list of achievements, marking his eighth career title and his third triumph of the year. Earlier in 2025, he kicked off the season with victories in Montpellier, France, and Adelaide, Australia. With this win, Auger-Aliassime now shares the record for the most singles titles among Canadian male players in the Open era, tying with Milos Raonic.

Currently ranked 13th globally, Auger-Aliassime has seen a slight decline from his previous position of 6th in November 2022.
