Keera Melenhorst netted two goals in the opening half as Ottawa Rapid staged a comeback after falling behind 2-1 early on to triumph over Calgary Wild 5-2 in a Northern Super League clash on Saturday. Melanie Forbes, Florence Belzile, and Choo Hyo-Joo also found the back of the net for the Rapid, leveling their season record at 1-1 following an initial 3-1 defeat against Halifax Tides.
Meggie Dougherty Howard and Taegan Stewart scored for Calgary Wild, who remain winless at 0-2 after a 2-0 loss to Montreal Roses in their season opener. Despite initially leading 2-1 over the Rapid, Calgary found themselves trailing 4-2 by halftime.
Ottawa dominated possession with 59% compared to Calgary’s 42% at TD Place Stadium, although they were outshot 13-12 (with 8 shots on target for Calgary and 6 for Ottawa). Both teams earned three corners each, and Ottawa received the sole yellow card of the match.
