“Big Brother Canada Returns with New Elimination Cycle”

Date:

Get prepared for another cycle of eliminations as the third installment of Big Brother Canada is set to return, set to premiere on CTV and Crave. The popular reality competition show will kick off production in Montreal next spring, with further details about casting to be revealed at a later time, according to Bell Media’s recent upfront announcements in Toronto.

Additionally, the network will broadcast the enduring U.S. version of Big Brother starting in the summer of 2027. Following a theme inspired by George Orwell’s iconic novel Nineteen Eighty-Four, the show brings together a group of participants – referred to as houseguests – in a specially designed house where they are constantly under audio and video surveillance, isolated from the outside world, and compelled to compete for monetary rewards.

Participants navigate through interpersonal conflicts and evolving relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds and beliefs, striving to avoid eviction from the house and elimination from the competition. The Canadian revival will be hosted by lifestyle presenter and entertainment journalist Andrea Bain, known for her role as co-host on CTV’s daytime program The Social and her prior involvement in CBC’s daytime talk show The Goods.

Bain expressed her excitement about the opportunity on social media, stating, “If you’ve watched me over the years, you know how much I love reality television, big personalities, unexpected twists, and unforgettable moments. So to now be part of a franchise that has delivered all of that for decades is truly a dream come true.”

Bell Media’s agreement encompasses the complete catalog of the show’s previous 12 seasons, available for binge-watching on Crave, in addition to the French-language edition Big Brother Célébrités. Various adaptations of Big Brother have found success worldwide since its inception in the late 1990s in the Netherlands, airing in numerous countries such as Brazil, the U.K., India, and Australia.

The Canadian version initially premiered on Slice, a digital platform, in 2013 under Shaw Media and Corus Entertainment before transitioning to the main network Global two years later. The show was hosted by broadcaster and entertainment journalist Arisa Cox, known for her involvement in the early 2000s reality series U8TV: The Lofters.

After a hiatus following its fifth season, fan demand led to the show’s revival for a sixth season. Another wave of support emerged when Global announced its cancellation in June 2024. Justin Stockman, Bell Media’s vice president of global content, affirmed the network’s commitment to providing Canadian viewers with more engaging and memorable competitive social gameplay they enjoy.
