“Calico Cat’s Bridge Rescue Goes Viral”

Date:

Franco the feline’s enigmatic 40-kilometer trek to a bridge in Halifax concluded happily. Amid the morning commute rush on Friday, a driver halted on the A. Murray MacKay Bridge to rescue the calico cat from Elmsdale, N.S. Around 7:40 a.m., Ashleigh MacDonald, while driving on the bridge, noticed traffic slowing down. Observing Franco meandering across the lanes, MacDonald promptly pulled over to execute the rescue operation. Videos shared by fellow drivers quickly went viral, earning MacDonald widespread accolades for her swift action. Speaking to CBC’s Mainstreet on Friday, MacDonald stated that she didn’t hesitate and believed it was what anyone should have done. She mentioned that traffic was minimal at that time, and drivers cooperated by slowing and stopping to facilitate a successful rescue mission.

Franco was cared for and showered with affection by MacDonald’s colleagues at Scotia Fuels. Later, the cat was handed over to Spay Day Nova Scotia as there were no identifying marks. MacDonald revealed that the cat was affectionately named Bridget MacKay by the rescuers. On Friday evening, Spay Day Nova Scotia confirmed that the cat was in good health and that the owner had been located. Linda Felix, the charity organization’s founder, expressed uncertainty about how the cat managed to travel from Elmsdale to Halifax, speculating that Franco may have hitched a ride in a vehicle and disembarked on the bridge during the morning traffic slowdowns.

Adam Wadden, Franco’s owner, retrieved her on Saturday morning and brought cat food as a token of appreciation to Spay Day Nova Scotia. Wadden expressed disbelief upon seeing a post about Franco in Halifax, as it was her first extended absence from home. Franco, adopted 12 years ago from New Brunswick, is estimated to be around 13 or 14 years old. The family is still investigating how Franco made the unexpected journey to Halifax. Currently, Franco has resumed her routine home life, lounging with the kids in the living room and snuggling with the family dog on the chair. Wadden remarked that Franco, apart from enjoying sunlight and strolling in the backyard, is not usually adventurous and is more of a homebody.
