Nova Scotia RCMP reported that a high-risk offender named Gregory Ernest Last has relocated from Truro, N.S., to Lower Sackville, N.S. Last, in his 40s, was previously convicted of severe crimes including aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault with a weapon, and assault with a weapon. These offenses were committed in Ontario during the early 2000s, leading to his designation as a dangerous offender.
A parole decision in 2015 highlighted Last’s use of threats, choking, and brutal sexual assaults involving weapons like a gun, cup, and remote control. Another incident occurred in prison where Last and another inmate assaulted a third inmate using a homemade club and a shank.
Last was granted full parole in December 2025 and was residing in Truro initially. Assessments indicated a moderate general risk of reoffending, but a high risk of reoffending sexually and with violence due to various behavioral deficits.
Despite multiple violent incidents in prison, Last’s behavior improved before his day parole in late 2024. The parole board noted his high motivation, accountability levels, and increased potential for reintegration. Last has been participating in constructive activities within the Black Nova Scotian community and has a strong support network.
Victim impact statements expressed concerns about Last’s release, leading to special conditions being imposed to prevent contact with specific individuals. Last’s parole conditions include ongoing psychological counseling and relationship reporting.
