Four years ago, Sokvin Vann found herself stuck in a routine. Encouraged by her brother, she channeled her passion for K-pop and BTS into creating BTS Army Toronto, a local fan club that organizes activities and gatherings to unite fans of the South Korean band. Despite facing personal loss with her brother’s passing, Vann expanded the fan club into a vibrant community that engages hundreds of supporters, arranges events, charitable initiatives, and advocates for local Korean businesses.
As BTS prepares to return to Toronto after more than a decade, Vann, alongside her son Jordan, and a dedicated team of around 10 individuals, is excited about the upcoming concerts. The fan club has evolved into a platform that fosters friendships and mutual appreciation for music, enriching the lives of its members.
In anticipation of BTS’s concerts at Rogers Stadium, where they will perform for a total of 100,000 fans over two nights, the City of Toronto has renamed part of Yonge Street to BTS Boulevard and declared the weekend as BTS Weekend in the city. The vibrant BTS fanbase, known as the army, showcases an unparalleled dedication to the band, with an in-depth understanding of its history and members.
Vann attributes the fans’ fervor to BTS’s meaningful music, which addresses themes like mental health and self-love. The group’s current tour, featuring their album “ARIRANG,” has garnered immense success, topping charts and setting new records in the music industry. As BTS’s only Canadian stop on the tour, Toronto fans are eagerly awaiting the long-awaited performances, creating a buzz around the city.
The excitement is palpable as fans gear up for the concerts, with many expressing their anticipation and enthusiasm for the event. BTS-themed activities and events are being organized in Toronto, adding to the anticipation and celebratory atmosphere surrounding the concerts. Vann is particularly eager to experience the intimate setting of the stadium and the surprises BTS has in store for their Toronto shows.
As the concert dates draw near, Vann and the BTS Army Toronto are ready to savor the unique concert experience with the community, expecting a mix of emotions post-concert but ultimately feeling grateful for the connection forged with the band and fellow fans.
