“Blue Jays Ready to Roll Against Mariners in ALCS”

Date:

The Toronto Blue Jays have embraced a familiar routine following their securing of the top seed in the American League on the season’s final day: rest, prepare, and execute. This strategy proved effective against the New York Yankees in the AL Division Series, with the Blue Jays now aiming for a repeat performance in the AL Championship Series against the Seattle Mariners.

Toronto outfielder Myles Straw expressed confidence in the team’s readiness, stating, “I think we’re going to be ready to roll. I feel like that was the perfect amount of time to miss and still be locked in.” The Blue Jays’ division title granted them home-field advantage and a bye past the wild-card round, contrasting with the Yankees’ arduous journey through a best-of-three series against Boston before facing Toronto.

Facing the Mariners in Game 1 on Sunday night at Rogers Centre, the Blue Jays had the luxury of resting and adjusting their rotation after swiftly wrapping up the ALDS on Wednesday. In contrast, the Mariners endured a grueling Game 5 against Detroit that concluded late Friday, necessitating 15 innings and a subsequent cross-country flight on Saturday.

Seattle’s manager, Dan Wilson, acknowledged the team’s emotional series victory over Detroit and expressed optimism as they prepared to face the Blue Jays. Meanwhile, Toronto engaged in a relaxed workout session and batting practice ahead of the best-of-seven opener.

Kevin Gausman is set to start Game 1 for the Blue Jays, with Seattle countering with Bryce Miller. Gausman, coming off a win in Game 1 of the ALDS, expressed eagerness for the pivotal matchup. The potential starting lineup for the Blue Jays in subsequent games includes rookie Trey Yesavage for Game 2 and Shane Bieber for Game 3, following the pattern from the ALDS.

The Mariners utilized starters Logan Gilbert and Luis Castillo in relief during their decisive win over the Tigers, employing seven pitchers in the lengthy game. Despite a short rest, Miller, who did not pitch in the previous game, is primed to lead Seattle in Game 1.

Seattle’s appearance in the ALCS marks their first since 2001, while the Blue Jays last competed in Major League Baseball’s final four in 2016. The series schedule includes Game 2 in Toronto on Monday, followed by Game 3 and Game 4 at T-Mobile Park in Seattle. If a fifth game is required, it will take place in Seattle, with potential subsequent games hosted by Toronto.

The ALCS victor will advance to face the National League champion in the World Series, with the Blue Jays seeking their first Fall Classic victory since 1993.
