“Saskatchewan Roughriders Clinch Top Spot in CFL West”

Date:

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have secured first place in the CFL’s West Division after defeating the Toronto Argonauts 27-19. This victory improved the Riders’ record to 12-4, guaranteeing them the top spot and the opportunity to host the West Division final in Regina on Nov. 8. On the other hand, the Argos, who were already out of playoff contention, dropped to a 5-12 record.

Quarterback Trevor Harris led the Riders with an impressive performance, completing 23 of 29 passes for 340 yards and two touchdowns. Looking ahead to the playoffs, Harris emphasized the importance of utilizing the next three weeks to fine-tune their game and prepare for the crucial match on Nov. 8.

The Riders will wrap up their regular season with a road game in Winnipeg on Oct. 17 and a home game against B.C. on Oct. 25. The West semifinal is scheduled for Oct. 1, with the winner advancing to face the Riders in Regina for the West final on Oct. 8.

Head coach Corey Mace is strategizing on how to make the most of the four-week preparation period leading up to the post-season. He highlighted the opportunity to get key players back from injury and ensure the team is at full strength for the playoffs.

Despite a valiant effort by the Argos, the Riders managed to secure the win in a closely contested game. A series of crucial plays in the final minutes, including a successful challenge by Mace, ultimately sealed the victory for Saskatchewan. Kicker Brett Lauther, who struggled earlier in the season, redeemed himself with five field goals, securing the win for the Riders.

Argos’ quarterback Jarret Doege, filling in for the injured Nick Arbuckle, displayed resilience and toughness throughout the game despite taking several hard hits. Doege’s performance was commendable as he completed 20 of 31 passes for 221 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Additionally, kicker Liram Hajrullahu continued his stellar season by converting four field goals, maintaining his impressive accuracy throughout the season.
