Throughout almost 50 years of Blue Jays baseball, the team has reached the post-season 11 times, including this season.
This Sunday marks the start of the American League Championship Series (ALCS) for the Blue Jays, a stage they last entered in 2016. Their opponents will be the Seattle Mariners, who eliminated the Detroit Tigers on Friday night.
To advance to the ALCS, the Blue Jays defeated the Yankees in the American League Division Series (ALDS).
The Blue Jays have previously made it to the ALCS seven times, in 1985, 1989, from 1991 to 1993, and in 2015 and 2016.
Let’s look back at the performances of those teams in the ALCS.
Debut in 1985

In 1985, the Blue Jays won 99 games in the regular season, a record unmatched by Toronto since then, earning their first post-season appearance.
The team ranked fourth in runs scored in the league that year, with six players hitting double-digit home runs. Similarly, the 2025 Blue Jays were fourth in runs scored during the regular season, with four players hitting 20 or more home runs and four others in the double digits.
During that time, the Blue Jays were directly placed in the ALCS, where they faced the Kansas City Royals in a seven-game series, ultimately won by the Royals, who later clinched the World Series.

1989 Season
In 1989, the Blue Jays won 89 games, securing the division title. Up against the Oakland Athletics in the ALCS, the Jays managed to win only one game in the series.

The A’s went on to sweep the San Francisco Giants in the World Series.
1991 Triumph
In 1991, the Blue Jays secured their third division title with a 91-win season. However, they fell short in the ALCS, winning only one game against the Minnesota Twins, who later became World Series champions.
Back-to-Back Champions
The Blue Jays famously clinched consecutive World Series titles in 1992 and 1993.
