Nick Reiner, son of the famous actor-director Rob Reiner and photographer Michele Singer Reiner, has been apprehended after the tragic deaths of his parents at their residence in Los Angeles. The bodies of Rob and Michele were found by the Los Angeles Police Department, who determined their deaths as a homicide.
Rob Reiner, known for his role as Mike Stivic in the TV show “All in the Family” before transitioning to directing films such as “The Princess Bride” and “This is Spinal Tap,” met Michele, a photographer, on the set of “When Harry Met Sally…,” a film he directed.
Nick Reiner, aged 32, is one of three children of Rob and Michele, along with his older brother Jake Reiner, 34, and younger sister Romy Reiner, 27. Nick has battled drug addiction since his teenage years and faced periods of homelessness as a consequence. He disclosed in a 2016 interview with People magazine that he first went to rehab at 15 and had multiple stays in rehab facilities over the years. Nick shared that his struggles led to periods of homelessness when he declined further rehab.
Nick and Rob collaborated on the film “Being Charlie” in 2016, with Nick penning the script and Rob directing. The movie, which won the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s Voice Award for best film that year, portrays the story of a rebellious, drug-addicted teenage son of a politician-actor father.
The LAPD announced that Nick was held responsible for the deaths of his parents and was arrested without bail on Sunday evening. The police chief mentioned that Nick was “booked for murder” but did not specify the charges initially. The case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office for further action. At the time of the report, there was no immediate response from Reiner’s family representatives or information on legal representation for Nick.
