“Goodfood License Temporarily Revoked by CFIA”

Date:

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has temporarily revoked the license of Goodfood, a Montreal-based meal kit and grocery delivery service. The suspension of the Safe Food for Canadians license, announced by the CFIA in a press release on Wednesday, does not involve any product recalls.

According to the regulations outlined in the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations, food businesses engaged in the manufacturing, processing, preservation, or packaging of food for interprovincial or territorial distribution must hold a license. The CFIA stated that corrective actions by the license holder will be necessary to lift the suspension.

Goodfood’s license suspension was linked to non-compliance with part four of the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations, specifically concerning preventive controls, as indicated by the federal agency. Failure to take corrective action within 90 days may lead to the cancellation of the license.

The CFIA highlighted that Safe Food for Canadians licenses can be suspended for various reasons, including failure to comply with relevant regulations, non-payment of required fees, or activities posing a risk to public safety.

In response to the license suspension, an unnamed representative from Goodfood Market Corp. expressed disappointment in the decision affecting the Montreal facility but reassured customers that the Calgary facility remains fully operational. The company emphasized that their products meet high safety standards, with no food safety issues reported at their facilities. The representative mentioned that the license suspension primarily pertains to procedural matters like complaint reviews and stated that the company is actively working to address any perceived gaps promptly.

Goodfood assured customers that the impact of the license suspension on orders nationwide will be minimal, with deliveries continuing as usual, albeit with some exceptions, according to the spokesperson.
