Actor Kiefer Sutherland was taken into custody early Monday following a report of an altercation with a ride-hailing driver in Los Angeles, as per authorities. The incident occurred shortly after midnight near Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Ave., close to Hollywood Hills. The Los Angeles Police Department stated that the 59-year-old Canadian actor, known for winning an Emmy award, got into a ride-hailing vehicle and physically attacked the driver while also issuing criminal threats.
The driver did not sustain any significant injuries requiring medical attention at the time, confirmed the police. Sutherland was arrested on suspicion of making criminal threats and was later released on a $50,000 US bond from jail a few hours after the arrest. His initial court appearance is slated for Feb. 2.
Attempts to reach out to Sutherland’s representatives for comment were unsuccessful at the time. Sutherland, widely recognized for his role as federal agent Jack Bauer on the TV series “24” and its spinoffs, also starred in films like “The Lost Boys” and “Young Guns.” He notably appeared in movies directed by Rob Reiner, including “Stand by Me” and “A Few Good Men.”
Sutherland is the offspring of Canadian actors Donald Sutherland and Shirley Douglas and the grandchild of former Saskatchewan premier Tommy Douglas, credited for introducing universal healthcare in Canada.
