Fashion designer Tom Ford’s production company announced that Adele will be joining the cast of his upcoming film adaptation of Anne Rice’s novel “Cry to Heaven.” This project, where Ford serves as writer, director, and producer, will mark the singer’s acting debut.
Adele will be part of a star-studded ensemble that includes Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, George MacKay, Colin Firth, Paul Bettany, Owen Cooper, and Hunter Schafer. Specific details about their roles have not been disclosed yet.
The Grammy-winning artist’s latest album, titled “30,” was released in 2021. Instead of touring for the album, she held a successful residency in Las Vegas, wrapping up after 100 shows in 2024.
Adele follows a trend of singers venturing into acting, with recent examples including Charli XCX, Lady Gaga, Harry Styles, and A$AP Rocky. Rice’s original novel, set in 18th-century Italy’s opera scene, follows two characters from contrasting backgrounds.
This project will be Ford’s third feature film, following “A Single Man” in 2009 and “Nocturnal Animals” in 2016. The screenplay for “Cry to Heaven” was penned by Ford himself, with the film currently in pre-production in London and Rome, aiming for a fall 2026 release date.
Ford is self-financing the film, a practice he has upheld in his previous works, stating, “I will only ever make a movie if I control the underlying rights.”
