The Toronto Blue Jays’ designated hitter, George Springer, had to exit Saturday’s 11-4 victory against Minnesota in the third inning due to being struck by a pitch on his left foot. This incident occurred shortly after Springer’s recent return from the 10-day injured list, where he was recovering from a left big toe injury sustained on April 11 during a game against the Twins.
Following the latest injury, X-rays revealed no new fractures, and manager John Schneider mentioned that the situation is not more severe than before. Springer was already scheduled to have a day off on Sunday. The impact occurred when Connor Prielipp threw an 88 mph slider, causing Springer to fall to the ground in discomfort. After receiving assistance from trainers, he left the field and was substituted by Jesus Sanchez.
Springer, now in his sixth season with Toronto at 36 years old, holds a .212 batting average with two home runs and seven RBIs in 66 at-bats over 18 games. Notably, the former MVP of the 2017 World Series with the Houston Astros is currently in the final season of a lucrative six-year, $150 million contract with the Blue Jays.
