“Blue Jays Ready for Postseason Kickoff”

Date:

The Toronto Blue Jays are set to kick off the postseason with a daytime game as per the schedule released by MLB for the first two matches of the American League Division Series. Depending on the outcome of the AL Wild Card Series between Boston and New York Yankees, the Blue Jays will either face the Red Sox on Saturday at 1:08 p.m. ET if Boston wins, or take on the Yankees at 4:08 p.m. if New York advances. The second game in both scenarios is scheduled for Sunday at 4:08 p.m.

Currently, Boston holds a 1-0 lead against New York as they head into Game 2 of the best-of-three series. Toronto secured a spot in the Division Series by clinching the AL East title and claiming the top seed in the American League after defeating Tampa Bay 13-4 on the last day of the regular season.

Bo Bichette, the injured shortstop for the Blue Jays, is making progress towards a potential return to play in the ALDS. Blue Jays manager John Schneider expressed optimism about Bichette’s recovery, highlighting the player’s determination and potential impact on the team. Bichette, a key player for the franchise, missed the final three weeks of the regular season due to a left knee sprain but had an impressive performance, finishing with 181 hits, a .311 batting average, 18 home runs, and 94 RBIs in just 139 games.

General manager Ross Atkins mentioned that Bichette, along with other players like Chris Bassitt and Ty France, were under consideration for the ALDS roster announcement on Saturday morning. However, uncertainties remained regarding their availability. On the other hand, Jose Berrios was ruled out as he continued to recover from an elbow injury.

During the break leading up to Game 1 of the ALDS, the Blue Jays engaged in workouts and scrimmages at Rogers Centre with members of the triple-A Buffalo Bisons. Infielder Ernie Clement emphasized the importance of the extended break for the team’s preparation and readiness ahead of the postseason.
