“Calgary Flames Aim for NHL Playoffs Return”

Date:

The Calgary Flames are aiming to build on their strong finish last season in their quest to make a return to the NHL playoffs. Despite ending the previous season with a 15-6-6 record, the Flames fell short of the postseason for the third consecutive year. Led by center Nazem Kadri, who topped the team with 35 goals and 32 assists, Calgary is looking to enhance their performance by securing additional points this season.

The Flames will kick off the 2025-26 regular season with challenging back-to-back away games in Edmonton and Vancouver before their home opener against the St. Louis Blues. Defenseman MacKenzie Weegar emphasized that teams will not underestimate Calgary this year, anticipating a tougher competition ahead.

Head coach Ryan Huska, entering his third season with the team, recently signed a two-year contract extension, providing stability to the coaching staff. The Flames will rely on key players like Mikael Backlund, Blake Coleman, Jonathan Huberdeau, Kadri, and Weegar to uphold a culture of hard work and enjoyment.

Young talents such as forwards Matt Coronato and Connor Zary, defenseman Kevin Bahl, and goalie Dustin Wolf have secured multi-year contracts after demonstrating their value to the team. Wolf, a standout performer last season, signed a significant extension, highlighting the Flames’ commitment to their emerging stars.

Looking ahead, the Flames are determined to prove any skeptics wrong and live up to their high expectations. With a blend of experienced veterans and promising young players, Calgary is optimistic about their prospects for the upcoming season. The team’s focus includes developing depth to support Wolf and integrating emerging talents like Zayne Parekh, who showcased his potential in the OHL.

Meanwhile, the construction of the new arena at Scotia Place is well underway, with an expected opening in the 2027-28 NHL season. The $1.2 billion project, a joint venture between the city, Flames owners, and the provincial government, will feature a state-of-the-art arena, indoor and outdoor plazas, and a community rink. The new facility has already played a role in attracting and retaining players, with general manager Craig Conroy expressing excitement about the upcoming change while reflecting on the team’s future prospects.
