Canada’s Gabriel Diallo emerged victorious over France’s Benjamin Bonzi with a 6-4, 6-4 win during the second round of the Shanghai Masters tennis tournament on Thursday. Diallo, hailing from Montreal, showcased his skills by delivering four aces along with two double faults and successfully converting 2 out of 4 break-point opportunities during the match. On the other hand, Bonzi managed seven aces, two double faults, but failed to secure any break-point chances.
Diallo, seeded 31st in the tournament, advanced to the second round with a bye. His upcoming opponent will be unseeded David Goffin from Belgium. Meanwhile, Montreal’s Felix Auger-Aliassime, seeded 12th, is gearing up to face Chile’s Alejandro Tabilo in the second round. Additionally, Denis Shapovalov, the 23rd seed from Richmond Hill, Ont., is preparing to challenge Australia’s Christopher O’Connell in hopes of progressing to the third round.
