Canadian Swimmer Summer McIntosh Withdraws from World Cup Opener

Date:

Canadian swimmer Summer McIntosh will not be competing in the first leg of the World Cup tour in Carmel, Indiana this weekend due to illness. McIntosh expressed her disappointment in a statement on social media, stating that she unexpectedly fell ill and will follow her doctor’s advice to rest instead of racing in Carmel. The talented swimmer, who had been preparing for the event in Carmel, is now focused on recovering, and it remains uncertain whether she will be able to participate in the next stop in Westmount, Illinois. The World Cup tour, consisting of three stops, features top swimmers from around the world competing for a total prize purse of $1.2 million. Swimmers have the opportunity to earn $10,000 for breaking a world record during the event. McIntosh, along with other Canadian swimmers such as Josh Liendo, Kylie Masse, Mary-Sophie Harvey, and Ilya Kharun, had signed up for the tour. International swimmers like Leon Marchand, Noe Ponti, Mollie O’Callaghan, Regan Smith, Thomas Ceccon, and Kaylee McKeown are also set to compete. McIntosh, who recently joined forces with renowned coach Bob Bowman in Austin, Texas, had a remarkable performance at the world aquatics championships, winning four gold medals and a bronze medal, making her one of the few swimmers in history to achieve such success at a single world championships event. The World Cup tour will conclude at the Pan Am Sports Centre in Toronto from October 23-25.
