“Clair Obscur” Triumphs with 9 Awards at The Game Awards

French video game “Clair Obscur: Expedition 33” emerged victorious as the game of the year at The Game Awards held in Los Angeles. The indie game dominated the awards ceremony, securing nine accolades, including best game direction, best narrative, and best independent game, out of the 12 nominations it received.

Developed by Sandfall and Kepler Interactive, “Clair Obscur: Expedition 33” is a role-playing game that delves into a dark fantasy realm where a group of characters strives to break a curse that claims lives annually of those above a certain age.

Grateful for the recognition, the game’s director, Guillaume Broche, expressed his gratitude to the team and tutorial creators on YouTube during the acceptance speech for the best game award. He acknowledged the impact of players’ engagement, fan art, and debates on the game’s endings, emphasizing how their support transformed lives at the studio.

Among the other notable winners were “Battlefield 6” honored for best audio design, “Mario Kart World” named best sports/racing game, and the highly anticipated “Grand Theft Auto 6” securing the title of most anticipated game, despite its delayed release now expected in November 2026. Additionally, the second season of “The Last of Us” clinched the best adaptation award for the HBO TV series based on the game.

The awards ceremony also unveiled exciting announcements for upcoming games. Viewers were treated to previews of the upcoming titles in the “Tomb Raider” series by Amazon Game Studios and Crystal Dynamics, introducing “Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis” and “Tomb Raider: Catalyst,” reimagining Lara Croft’s adventures.

Star Wars enthusiasts were thrilled with trailers for new games like “Fate of the Old Republic” and “Galactic Racer,” further heightening anticipation, especially for the sequel to the renowned “Knights of the Old Republic” game.

In a surprise reveal, Larian Studios, known for “Baldur’s Gate 3,” announced a new game titled “Divinity,” adding to the buzz surrounding upcoming releases in the gaming world.

Lastly, fans celebrated the return of “flute guy” Pedro Eustache, a musician in the live orchestra, during the final performance, as shared on Reddit, showcasing the community’s excitement and engagement with the event.

The Game Awards not only acknowledged excellence in the gaming industry but also set the stage for the excitement and anticipation surrounding future releases and developments in the gaming world.
