Connor McDavid has inked a new two-year contract extension with the Edmonton Oilers, securing his presence on the team until 2028. The deal, valued at $25 million, equates to an average annual salary of $12.5 million, as disclosed by the Oilers on their social media platform X, previously known as Twitter.
The announcement was also confirmed by McDavid himself, who shared the news on social media with a post declaring, “Our journey here continues,” alongside a photo featuring him and his teammates on the ice at Edmonton’s Rogers Place. With McDavid’s impending unrestricted free agency at the end of the current season, re-signing him was a top priority for the Oilers.
Stan Bowman, the executive vice-president of hockey operations and general manager, emphasized McDavid’s dedication to the team and the city of Edmonton, highlighting the player’s unwavering focus on delivering a Stanley Cup to the Oilers’ fans.
Having claimed the Hart Trophy three times as the NHL MVP, McDavid led the Oilers to the Stanley Cup final in both 2024 and 2025, falling short twice against the Florida Panthers. Widely regarded as the premier player in the league, McDavid recently completed his fifth consecutive 100-point season, despite being sidelined for 15 games due to injury. Since his debut as the top pick in the 2015 draft, McDavid has amassed an impressive record of 361 goals and 721 assists, totaling 1,082 points across 712 regular-season games.
