Deborah Cox and Rufus Wainwright have been chosen to perform the Canadian national anthem, “O Canada,” at the upcoming World Series games. Cox, a highly acclaimed Canadian R&B and soul artist with four Juno awards to her name, will sing the anthem before Game 4, following the Toronto Blue Jays’ recent losses to the Los Angeles Dodgers in Games 2 and 3. The next two games are scheduled to take place in Los Angeles after the Blue Jays’ initial victory in Game 1, which marked a significant milestone for the team.
On the other hand, Rufus Wainwright, a prominent figure in both contemporary pop and classical music spheres, will grace the event with his rendition of “O Canada” on October 29. The two-time Juno winner and Grammy nominee is renowned for his self-titled debut album in 1998, his 2001 album “Poses,” and the 2009 opera “Prima Donna.”
During Game 3, singer-songwriter JP Saxe performed the Canadian anthem, followed by Alessia Cara in Game 2, and Pharrell Williams and Voices of Fire in Game 1. Williams and the gospel choir also delivered a captivating rendition of the American national anthem at the series’ outset.
Switching over to the American side, R&B and electronic artist Tinashe will present “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the commencement of Game 4, while former Disney star Sofia Carson will take the stage for Game 5. Country star Brad Paisley and pop singer Bebe Rexha had previously performed at the earlier games.
In addition to the World Series appearances, Rufus Wainwright is scheduled to perform at the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame Légendes induction ceremony in Montreal on November 17 alongside his sister, Martha. Meanwhile, Deborah Cox, who was recently inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame at the 2022 Juno Awards, is gearing up for an upcoming tour in November, with stops planned in the Bahamas, New York, and Bethesda, Maryland.
