A pivotal player on the Montreal Canadiens defense has made a timely return for Game 7. Noah Dobson, a defenseman, rejoined the lineup just in time for the crucial matchup against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday night.
Montreal’s head coach, Martin St. Louis, expressed confidence in Dobson’s abilities, highlighting his significant contributions throughout the season. The Lightning managed to force Game 7 with a thrilling 1-0 overtime victory in Montreal, with all previous games in the series being decided by just one goal.
Dobson had been sidelined since sustaining an injury to his left hand from a Zach Werenski slapshot during a game against the Columbus Blue Jackets on April 11. Despite this setback, Dobson has been actively participating in practices, showcasing his skills in handling the puck and shooting comfortably.
The return of Dobson is a major boost for the Canadiens, given his substantial ice time and impressive performance on the team. He played a key role alongside Mike Matheson and contributed significantly with 12 goals and 47 points in 80 games this season.
The absence of Dobson was filled adequately by Alexandre Carrier, Jayden Struble, and Arber Xhekaj, who stepped up to support the team during his recovery period. Dobson’s experience in the playoffs, including a previous trip to the Eastern Conference final with the New York Islanders, adds valuable depth to the Canadiens’ roster.
In contrast, the Lightning will be without their captain, Victor Hedman, for Game 7 due to personal reasons. Hedman, a former Norris Trophy winner, has been absent from the lineup since March 19 but remained with the team during the first round, providing support despite not playing in the games.
Both teams faced travel disruptions en route to Tampa, with severe weather conditions causing delays and diversions. Despite the challenges, the players remained focused on the upcoming decisive game, drawing inspiration from past Game 7 experiences like that of Tampa Bay forward Nick Paul, who delivered a memorable performance in a previous playoff series.
