Health Canada has issued a recall for two cannabis products due to inaccurately labeled THC levels. Consumers are advised to return or discard the Chillows THC pouches in hot cinnamon and winter mint flavors. The products were supposed to contain 10 milligrams of THC per pouch but actually contain higher and varying levels of THC.
The affected products were distributed in Alberta, Ontario, Manitoba, and British Columbia from April 16 to July 30 of this year. Health Canada initiated an inspection following a consumer complaint, revealing elevated THC levels in the pouches. The agency stated that the inconsistent THC levels in each pouch could impact informed decision-making regarding cannabis use.
Using the recalled pouches may lead to over-intoxication and various symptoms such as confusion, anxiety, elevated heart rate, disorganized thinking, physical and mental impairment, decreased blood pressure, fear, or panic. In severe cases and certain individuals, excessive cannabis consumption could trigger psychotic episodes, Health Canada cautioned.
Health Canada emphasized the importance of safely disposing of the recalled products to prevent access by children.
