“Heated Rivalry” Wins Prestigious Peabody Award

Canadian hockey-themed drama series “Heated Rivalry” has been honored with a prestigious Peabody Award. The collaboration between Crave, Bell Media, and HBO Max in the U.S. gained unexpected popularity upon its launch in November 2025. The show was recognized as one of the outstanding TV productions in the entertainment category by the Peabody Awards panel.

In a press release, the jurors praised “Heated Rivalry” for its nuanced exploration of themes like sexuality and emotional intimacy, applauding its promotion of healthy masculinity and its significant cultural impact on television. The series, conceived by Montreal filmmaker Jacob Tierney and inspired by the works of Halifax author Rachel Reid, delves into the clandestine romance between fictional professional hockey players Shane Hollander (portrayed by Hudson Williams) and Ilya Rozanov (played by Connor Storrie).

Tierney, in conjunction with the show’s official Instagram account, expressed gratitude for the recognition, emphasizing the complexities and depth of the story. Reid also shared her pride in the production team, adding a joyful emoji to her comment. The Directors Guild of Canada in Ontario joined in the celebrations on social media, lauding their members who contributed to the series.

The 86th Annual Peabody Awards ceremony, where the winners will be formally acknowledged, is scheduled to take place in Los Angeles on May 31st.
