Clint Gottinger found himself in an unexpected situation last Saturday when he arrived home with a weary moose on the back of his tow truck, prompting him to call out for blankets. The owner of Rebel Towing, located in Kelvington, Sask., altered his plans after spotting a moose in distress near his residence.
Determined to assist the struggling animal, Gottinger swiftly changed course and devised a plan to rescue the moose trapped in the ice. With the help of neighbors, he successfully pulled the moose out using a soft sling and his tow truck’s deck. The rescue operation concluded around 5:30 p.m., and Gottinger transported the moose to his home to recuperate, where it was lovingly covered with blankets by his wife.
The moose, nicknamed “Rebel” in honor of Gottinger’s towing business, spent the night recovering on the blankets before finally regaining its strength and departing the following morning. Gottinger shared the heartwarming rescue story on social media, receiving an outpouring of positive reactions.
Dr. Ryan Brook, a professor at the University of Saskatchewan, expressed optimism about the moose’s chances of recovery, citing its youth and the favorable weather conditions. However, he cautioned that the moose may still face health risks following the traumatic incident and emphasized the importance of expert guidance for its well-being during the rehabilitation process.
