“Hockey Canada Withdraws from 2026 Spengler Cup”

Date:

Hockey Canada has decided not to participate in the 2026 Spengler Cup due to the inability to reach a new agreement with the Swiss-based invitational tournament. The national governing body mentioned that their existing long-term agreement expired after the 2025 event but expressed openness to potential future participation.

The Spengler Cup, originating in 1923, is an annual December tournament hosted by Swiss club HC Davos. Canada joined the competition in 1984, securing 16 titles since then, while HC Davos holds the record for the most championships at 17. Canadian teams at the Spengler Cup have traditionally featured players based in Europe.
