Former Supreme Court justice Louise Arbour is set to be sworn in as Canada’s next governor general on June 8. Prior to her appointment, Arbour had a distinguished career as a prominent legal expert, holding significant positions both domestically and internationally.
The 79-year-old previously served as the chief prosecutor for the international criminal tribunals for the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the CEO of the International Crisis Group. She has been awarded 42 honorary doctorates and is already a Companion of the Order of Canada in recognition of her groundbreaking legal contributions worldwide.
