“Man Accused of Illegally Crossing US Border on Sea-Doo”

Date:

Sarnia authorities have accused a man from Toronto of unlawfully entering the United States via the St. Clair River by renting a Sea-Doo watercraft. The incident unfolded when a distress call was made concerning a missing individual who had rented a personal watercraft in Sarnia at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Investigations revealed that the 40-year-old individual had rented the Sea-Doo on the Canadian side of the river using cash at 6:45 p.m., with a return time set for 7:45 p.m. Subsequently, when contacted by the rental facility for being overdue, the man offered dubious explanations, claiming he was just 10 minutes away.

Despite promises of imminent arrival, the man failed to turn up, leading to additional attempts to reach him by phone around 8:20 p.m., all of which went unanswered. Eventually, the U.S. Coast Guard located the Sea-Doo on the Michigan shore south of Sarnia a few hours later, while search and rescue teams scoured the water and surrounding areas in vain for the missing man.

Authorities suspect that the man successfully executed an illegal border crossing, prompting Sarnia police to inform U.S. Customs and Immigration for further investigation into the matter.
