“Murder trial uncovers ties to previous disappearances”

Date:

In a murder trial spanning a month, the defense in the case of Dean Penney, accused in the disappearance of Jennifer Hillier-Penney, opened its case with Lee Lush, a retired RCMP officer, as its first witness. Lush testified about a missing person case from 2002 involving Mildred Dawe Sexton. The trial, taking place in Newfoundland and Labrador Supreme Court in Corner Brook, delved into details of threats made by Derick Hillier towards Louise Hedderson, hinting at a possible connection to Sexton’s disappearance. Hillier, now deceased, was highlighted by the defense as a potential suspect, with past instances of threatening behavior and criminal history coming to light during the court proceedings. The trial is set to resume with more witness testimonies, including that of Penney himself, expected to be called by the defense.
