Longueuil authorities are on the hunt for the individual responsible for abandoning a newborn baby boy on a doorstep late on Sunday night, around 11 p.m. ET. The unidentified person rang the doorbell before quickly fleeing the scene, prompting the residents of the Bourgeoys Street home to immediately contact 911.
When discovered, the infant was wrapped in a blanket with his umbilical cord still attached. Longueuil police and paramedics arrived promptly, providing necessary care to the child before transporting him to the hospital, where he is reported to be in good health. Mélanie Mercille, a spokesperson for the Service de police de l’agglomération de Longueuil (SPAL), revealed that the baby was born prematurely at 34 weeks.
Mercille declined to disclose the gender of the individual who abandoned the baby, stating that in her 17-year career in law enforcement, she had never encountered such a case. Longueuil police announced plans to conduct a thorough neighborhood canvass on Monday, seeking potential surveillance footage from residents that could aid in identifying the newborn’s parents. Further investigations and analyses will also be undertaken to track down the person responsible for leaving the child at the doorstep.
