“The Wire” Actor James Ransone Dies at 46

Date:

James Ransone, known for his role as Ziggy Sobotka in the popular TV series “The Wire,” has passed away at the age of 46. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed that Ransone died from suicide on Friday.

Aside from his portrayal of Sobotka on “The Wire,” Ransone was recognized for his appearances in TV series such as “Bosch,” “Poker Face,” and the miniseries “Generation Kill,” which depicted a Rolling Stone journalist embedded with American troops in Baghdad during 2003.

Ransone also had a significant presence in the horror genre, starring in films like “It: Chapter Two,” “The Black Phone,” “Black Phone 2,” and the “Sinister” movie series. In a 2016 Interview magazine feature, Ransone discussed his unconventional career path, revealing how his role in “Generation Kill” shaped his perspective on acting and his personal life, particularly his family background with a father who was a Vietnam War veteran.

The actor also opened up about his battle with addiction, conquering it just before filming “Generation Kill.” Following Ransone’s untimely death, tributes poured in from his loved ones, including his wife Jamie McPhee, who shared a heartfelt message on Instagram expressing her eternal love and gratitude for their family.

A GoFundMe page has been established to support Ransone’s wife and children in the wake of his passing. Representatives for Ransone were not immediately available for comment when contacted by the Associated Press.
