Prince Oduro, a basketball player from Toronto, initially left his hometown to pursue his basketball aspirations, following the common path of many Canadian players heading to the United States. After playing overseas for some time, he discovered an opportunity back home in Canada. Currently, as the most experienced player in the history of the Brampton Honey Badgers, Oduro’s journey mirrors the development of the Canadian Elite Basketball League, revolutionizing the concept of success in Canadian basketball.
Having faced challenges finding consistent playing time during his Division 1 basketball stint in the U.S., Oduro’s fortunes changed when he joined the Hamilton Honey Badgers in 2022, later transitioning to the Brampton team. Reflecting on this shift, Oduro expressed gratitude for the team’s belief in him and the subsequent positive outcomes that followed.
Before embarking on his professional career, Oduro’s passion for basketball was honed in local Toronto gyms, particularly in the Falstaff area, where he was inspired by the basketball culture and the presence of renowned players like Tristian Thompson and Andrew Wiggins. This grassroots experience continues to influence Oduro’s CEBL journey, where he now competes against familiar faces from his past, including NBA players he grew up playing against.
Beyond the basketball court, Oduro finds solace in poetry, a creative outlet he developed during his school days. Encouraged by a teacher’s positive feedback on his early poems, Oduro continues to incorporate poetry into his life, often sharing his basketball-themed compositions with students during school visits.
Having been part of the championship-winning Honey Badgers team in 2022, Oduro aims for further personal and professional growth this season, emphasizing the importance of cherishing the present moment and expressing gratitude for his current opportunities. As the Honey Badgers gear up for the season opener against the Ottawa BlackJacks on May 15, Oduro reflects on his basketball journey, symbolized by a boy who once carried his basketball everywhere, now traversing the world through the sport and returning to his roots.
