Tyler Mislawchuk began his season on a high note by securing a bronze medal at a World Triathlon Cup in Chengdu, China. This victory marked his seventh career World Cup medal, adding to his impressive record as a three-time Olympian hailing from Oak Bluff, Manitoba.
Having previously claimed a bronze medal at the World Triathlon Championship Series, Mislawchuk expressed his satisfaction with the win, emphasizing the uncertainty of future podium finishes. Clocking in at 50 minutes and 16 seconds, he clinched the bronze medal, with Australia’s Luke William taking gold in 50:14 and France’s Nils Serre Gehri closely securing silver.
In the men’s event, fellow Canadians Liam Donnelly and Martin Sobey finished in eighth and 13th place, respectively. On the women’s side, Isla Britton from Montreal placed 24th, while Sophia Howell from Airdrie, Alberta, finished 37th. The women’s race saw Germany’s Laura Lindemann emerging victorious in 55:27, followed by neutral athlete Valentina Riasova with silver and Great Britain’s Kate Waugh with bronze.
Looking ahead, Mislawchuk, Sobey, Britton, and Howell are set to compete in the inaugural World Cup mixed relay in Chengdu on Sunday.
