Shell, a U.K.-based energy company, is expanding its presence in Alberta and British Columbia by acquiring ARC Resources, a Calgary-based company, for $22 billion. This move comes amid a series of recent deals in the Canadian oil industry, as companies seek secure and cost-effective sources of oil and natural gas following disruptions caused by global events.
The acquisition of ARC marks Shell’s largest investment in the past decade. ARC, known for its natural gas production, averages approximately 410,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. In recent years, there has been a reversal of the trend where foreign companies reduced their operations in Canada. Shell, along with other international firms, had divested significant assets.
