Hot off the success of the recent Artemis II mission featuring Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen, another Canadian has been selected for a space expedition. NASA has revealed Expedition 75, the upcoming crew to the International Space Station (ISS), which includes Canadian astronaut Joshua Kutryk, along with NASA astronauts Jessica Watkins and Luke Delaney, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Sergey Teteryatnikov.
Kutryk, recruited in 2017, will join the Crew-13 mission in representing Canada. Expressing his honor, Kutryk emphasized the importance of curiosity, adventure, innovation, and collaboration in space exploration. In 2023, Kutryk was named as the next Canadian to embark on a six-month mission to the ISS.
Initially set to fly on Boeing’s CST-100 Starliner capsule, Kutryk’s mission plans shifted due to ongoing issues with the Starliner program. Despite the setbacks, Kutryk remains dedicated to his upcoming mission aboard a SpaceX Crew Dragon scheduled for mid-September.
Hailing from Fort Saskatchewan, Alta., Kutryk has a background as a fighter pilot and operational test pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Since joining the Canadian Space Agency, Kutryk has been training in Houston alongside NASA personnel.
