“Musicals ‘The Lost Boys’ and ‘Schmigadoon!’ Lead Tony Nominations”

The musical productions “The Lost Boys” and “Schmigadoon!” received the highest number of Tony Award nominations, each garnering 12 nods. This year’s nominations also saw 96-year-old June Squibb becoming the oldest actor to be nominated for a Tony Award, while Danny Burstein made history as the most-nominated male actor in Tony history.

Following closely behind were “Ragtime,” a revival showcasing early 20th-century America with 11 nominations, and “Death of a Salesman,” a poignant portrayal of the American Dream’s unraveling, earning nine nods. A total of 24 shows received at least one nomination across the 26 Tony categories, including innovative productions like “Cats: The Jellicle Ball” and the revival of “Chess.”

In the best new musical category, contenders include “Titanique,” a camp musical comedy inspired by the movie “Titanic,” and “Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York),” a rom-com set in New York City. For the best new play category, nominees include “Giant,” “Liberation,” “The Balusters,” and “Little Bear Ridge Road,” each offering unique stories and perspectives.

June Squibb, nominated for her role in “Marjorie Prime,” now holds the record for the oldest Tony-nominated actor, surpassing Lois Smith. Similarly, Danny Burstein made history with his ninth Tony nomination for his performance in “Marjorie Prime,” breaking the previous record held by Jason Robards. Noteworthy nominations also include Daniel Radcliffe for his role in “Every Brilliant Thing.”

The best play revival category boasts acclaimed works such as “Every Brilliant Thing,” “Death of a Salesman,” and “Oedipus.” Actors like John Lithgow and Rose Byrne are among the nominees, with the possibility of adding another Tony Award to their accolades. The Tony Awards ceremony is scheduled for June 7 at Radio City Music Hall, with Pink set to host the event, which will be broadcast live on CBS and streamed on Paramount+. Last year’s show, hosted by Cynthia Erivo, attracted a substantial viewership, marking a successful event for the prestigious awards ceremony.
