“Russian Attacks Kill 22 in Ukraine; Ceasefire Declared”

Date:

Russian drone and missile attacks conducted overnight and on Tuesday resulted in the deaths of at least 22 individuals and injuries to over 80 others, as confirmed by Ukrainian officials. The strikes targeted various cities, including Kramatorsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Chernihiv, causing casualties among civilians. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy criticized Russia for its actions, describing them as “utter cynicism” given Moscow’s announcement of a ceasefire planned later in the week.

In response to the attacks, Ukraine declared its own truce starting at the end of Tuesday, with Zelenskyy emphasizing the need for peace and urging concrete steps towards achieving it. The UN Secretary-General welcomed the ceasefire initiatives and emphasized the importance of a lasting peace in accordance with international law.

During the conflict, both sides continued their military operations, with Ukrainian forces targeting Russian rear areas to disrupt Moscow’s war economy. Russian forces reported intercepting Ukrainian drones in various regions, including the annexed Crimean Peninsula. Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko highlighted that Russia’s main targets included energy facilities and infrastructure, with repeated attacks on Ukraine’s energy sector.

Ukraine’s military also launched long-range attacks on Russian territories, aiming to disrupt key facilities. The country’s Defence Minister reported an increase in midrange strikes in April, targeting enemy positions and supply lines. Additionally, Ukrainian ground robots were active in resupply and evacuation missions during the month.

As the conflict continues, both sides engage in military actions, with casualties and damages reported in various regions. The situation remains volatile as international efforts to secure a lasting ceasefire and peace continue.
