Hyundai Canada has announced a safety recall for certain 2024–2026 Elantra Hybrid vehicles over a potential fire hazard. The recall impacts 6,082 cars in Canada, as confirmed by Hyundai officials. Hyundai’s spokesperson, Nitish Bissonauth, assured that there have been no fire incidents, injuries, or fatalities related to this issue in Canada.
In the United States, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported a recall of 54,337 vehicles for the same issue. The problem stems from a potential malfunction in the hybrid power control unit, which could lead to overheating, as per Hyundai.
The NHTSA warns that this issue may result in a “no start” condition or reduced power mode in most cases, with the possibility of overheating and an increased risk of fire. Hyundai has stated that they will contact all affected vehicle owners and provide a complimentary software update to rectify the overheating concern.
