“Nadia Comăneci Returns to Montreal for 50th Olympic Anniversary”

Former Romanian gymnast Nadia Comăneci is set to make a comeback to Montreal in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Summer Games, where she achieved the first perfect 10 score in Olympic gymnastics history.

During the 1976 Olympics, Comăneci received seven perfect 10 scores and clinched five medals, including three gold medals.

She will participate in a special event outside Montreal’s Olympic Stadium on August 1, with organizers aiming to gather numerous women named Nadia in a tribute to the babies named after Comăneci following her remarkable victory.

The City of Montreal is highlighting the 50th anniversary of the 1976 Summer Olympic Games by hosting meet-and-greets with athletes, outdoor film screenings and guided tours tracing the history of the Games. A special guest of honour will also make an appearance on a stage.

The schedule for commemorating the 1976 Games anniversary was announced today at the Canadian Olympic Committee headquarters, featuring concerts, art exhibitions, and sports activities.

Veronique Doucet, a representative of the organization overseeing Parc Jean-Drapeau, a significant island venue for the 1976 events, emphasized the enduring impact of the Games, with many facilities still in operation, including those on the island in the St. Lawrence River.
