The popular Prime Video series “Every Year After,” adapted from Carley Fortune’s bestselling novel “Every Summer After,” has been confirmed for a second season. Featuring Sadie Soverall and Matt Cornett, with Carley Fortune as executive producer, the show premiered earlier this summer.
The storyline of “Every Summer After” revolves around Percy and Sam, childhood friends whose strong bond was broken by a pivotal event, leading to their separation. Years later, they reunite at a funeral, sparking a complex love story over a weekend spanning six years.
The upcoming season of “Every Year After” will draw inspiration from Fortune’s second book, “One Golden Summer,” set in Barry’s Bay, Ontario. This installment focuses on Sam’s brother, Charlie, a beloved character, as he embarks on a long-awaited romance.
In “One Golden Summer,” photographer Alice plans for a peaceful summer at her childhood cottage with her grandmother. However, her tranquility is disrupted when the charming and flirtatious Charlie unexpectedly returns, reigniting feelings of youth and potential romance.
According to Peter Friendlander, Prime Video’s head of global TV, the overwhelming positive reception to “Every Year After” highlights the broad appeal of Carley Fortune’s storytelling and the audience’s deep connection to the Barry’s Bay universe.
Carley Fortune, a renowned Toronto-based journalist and author, has crafted a captivating collection of books, including “Meet Me at the Lake,” “Every Summer After,” “One Golden Summer,” “This Summer Will Be Different,” and “Our Perfect Storm.” “Meet Me at the Lake” made headlines by becoming a finalist on Canada Reads in 2024, championed by fashion influencer Mirian Njoh, marking the first romance novel to feature on the show.
“Every Year After” is currently available for streaming on Prime Video.
