Hayu, a reality streaming service by NBCUniversal, and Lark Productions from British Columbia have revealed that filming has begun for “Summer House Canada” in the stunning Muskoka region. This marks the first international adaptation of the hit reality series.
Hendrik McDermott, the managing director of international DTC at NBCUniversal, expressed enthusiasm about Muskoka being the perfect Canadian backdrop for “Summer House Canada,” aiming to continue the success of the franchise.
Similar to its American counterpart, the Canadian version will follow a group of friends who gather at a shared cottage on weekends, where relationships and drama play out.
Erin Haskett, the president and executive producer at Lark Productions, highlighted the global popularity of “Summer House” for its genuine friendships and captivating moments shared during a summer together.
This Canadian adaptation adds to the growing list of reality TV series with Canadian versions, including “Canada Shore” in Kelowna, B.C., and the upcoming return of “Big Brother Canada” on CTV and Crave.
Coincidentally, the U.S. version of “Summer House” received its first Emmy nomination after ten seasons, recognizing it as the best unstructured reality program.
The Canadian rendition will consist of 10 episodes exclusively available on Hayu, with casting details to be announced in the following months. Viewers can anticipate the premiere of “Summer House Canada” in 2027.
