“Canadian Quartet Wins Bronze at World Triathlon Cup”

Date:

A quartet of Canadian athletes displayed confidence as they competed in the World Triathlon Cup in Chengdu, China, securing a bronze medal in the mixed relay event with the guidance of Tyler Mislawchuk. Isla Britton from Montreal, Martin Sobey from Charlottetown, Sophia Howell from Airdrie, Alta., and Mislawchuk from Oak Bluff, Man., combined their efforts in swimming, cycling, and running to finish in one hour, 22 minutes, and 53 seconds.

Britton, a member of the national development team at 22 years old, set a strong pace in the opening leg of the race. Despite starting 11th out of 13 swimmers, Britton fought her way through the course to position the team well for the subsequent legs. Mislawchuk, fresh off an individual bronze the day before, maintained the team’s position at the front of the race during his leg.

Howell, the 24-year-old athlete, continued Canada’s podium contention, ensuring a gap was created between the leading trio and the rest of the field. Sobey then took over from Howell for the final leg, engaging in a thrilling battle with competitors from the United States and France. Sobey’s determined effort in the race’s closing moments secured the third spot on the podium for Canada.

The team’s collective performance was praised by Sobey, who emphasized their belief in their podium potential throughout the competition. Spain claimed the gold medal with a time of 1:22:22, closely followed by Great Britain finishing 11 seconds later at 1:22:33.
