Alannah Keyser, a 21-year-old contestant on the current season of Love Island USA, has been removed from the show after a video resurfaced online showing her using a racial slur. The removal occurred shortly after Keyser, a college student from Miami, made a bombshell entrance during the Casa Amor episodes of the reality dating series on Peacock.
The controversial video, a selfie-style Snapchat clip, surfaced after Keyser’s arrival at the villa on June 21. In the video, she appeared to be singing along to a song that contained the N-word, believed to be rapper Roddy Ricch’s 2019 track “The Box.”
Love Island USA narrator Iain Stirling announced Keyser’s departure during Thursday night’s episode, stating simply, “Alannah has left Casa Amor.” Fans of the show noticed a decrease in Keyser’s screen time following her initial appearance, with some viewers on Reddit pointing out her minimal presence in a recent episode.
Keyser’s case is not an isolated incident for the show or the franchise as a whole. Clips of another contestant, Vasana Montgomery, using a racial slur resurfaced shortly after the Season 8 cast was revealed, leading to Montgomery’s removal from the show before it aired on TV.
In a similar vein, Season 7 of Love Island USA saw two contestants removed for separate incidents. Yulissa Escobar was removed due to resurfaced clips of her using racial slurs on a podcast, while Cierra Ortega faced a similar fate after controversial videos surfaced online. Both Escobar and Ortega issued public apologies for their actions following their removal from the show.
CBC News attempted to contact Keyser for a comment but did not receive a response before publication.
