The event on February 10 involved an 18-year-old individual, Jesse Van Rootselaar, who first shot and killed her mother and half-brother at home before proceeding to a local secondary school where she fatally shot five children and an educator, injuring several others before taking her own life. Documents from seven lawsuits filed by victims of the school shooting, including families of the deceased and a survivor, were shared by the legal firm.
Due to challenges in pursuing litigation in Canada, where pain and suffering damages are limited, the families are opting to sue OpenAI in California to seek significant compensation. OpenAI responded to the lawsuits by emphasizing their zero-tolerance policy towards violence and highlighting improved safety measures in ChatGPT following the incident.
Despite an apology letter from Sam Altman to the community, some families remain unsatisfied, questioning the sincerity of the message.
