“Toronto Honors ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ Director Maggie Kang”

Maggie Kang, the mastermind behind the Academy Award-winning animated movie “KPop Demon Hunters,” was recently honored with the key to the city of Toronto, her hometown. The special recognition took place during a panel discussion at Departure Festival, where Mayor Olivia Chow surprised Kang on stage.

Mayor Chow commended the Korean-Canadian filmmaker for her outstanding achievements and expressed confidence that Kang’s journey would serve as a source of inspiration for future generations. Following the presentation of the key, Kang, accompanied by Mayor Chow and Cindy Gouveia, the president of her alma mater Sheridan College, posed for photographs.

“KPop Demon Hunters” has broken records on Netflix, emerging as the platform’s most-watched film to date. The movie’s success has led to a chart-topping soundtrack and the approval for a sequel. During the panel, Kang, the writer and co-director of the global hit, hinted at what audiences can expect from the next installment.

Kang shared her commitment to maintaining the same level of dedication for the sequel, emphasizing her goal to create a movie that resonates with her personal vision. Later in the week, Kang is scheduled to be honored with the cultural innovator award at the Departure Honours gala.
